Power showers, shower cubicles, steam rooms, wet rooms made of water sensitive materials in hotels, guest houses, leisure centres, fitness centres, at work and even in our domestic environments are at risk of water penetration which puts these installations at great risk
It is often felt that the use of a water resistant pastes or cementitious adhesive and grout will suffice.  This is not true. These materials will only resist the effects of water passage for a certain time. Power showers can generate a considerable amount of pressure, which can saturate the grout and adhesive and penetrate the substrate, subsequently causing failure of the tiling installation.  A more comprehensive measure is then needed to prevent water penetration.  This is why we recommend Bostik-Watertite tanking/ waterproof system in such areas.

Function

Schluter-TROBA-PLUS is a reliable and permanently effective drainage layer for use in horizontal applications over sloped waterproofing layers. It consists of a high-impact, studded polyethylene sheet covered on one side with a water-permeable filter fabric. The fabric-enhanced studded side, on which the surface covering assembly rests, acts as a high-capacity drainage plane. Schluter-TROBA-PLUS also provides protection for the waterproofing layer, as the closely positioned studs, shaped like truncated cones, have an extremely high load-bearing capacity and distribute loads evenly over the entire waterproofing surface.

Since Schluter-TROBA-PLUS stilts the mortar bed by 5/16″ (8 mm) over the entire waterproofing surface, irregularities in the waterproofing layer that could lead to the collection of water, such as uneven sections or elevations at the seams, are effectively bridged. Major defects in the slope of the waterproofing layer should be corrected prior to laying Schluter-TROBA-PLUS by applying an appropriate mortar. The open area between the studs and the fabric also creates an insulated air space that protects the waterproofing membrane against harmful thermal stress. Moreover, the insulated air space provides an effective sound barrier.

Schluter-KERDI is a bonded waterproof membrane with limited crack-bridging capabilities

Function

Schluter-KERDI is a bonded waterproof membrane with limited crack-bridging capabilities. It is made of soft polyethylene, which is covered on both sides with a special fleece webbing to anchor the membrane in the thin-set mortar.

Schluter-KERDI was developed as a waterproofing membrane to be used in conjunction with ceramic and stone tile coverings. Tiles can be installed directly on Schluter-KERDI using the thin-bed method. Other trowel-applied covering materials, such as plaster, can also be used.

Pre-cut sections of Schluter-KERDI are available for inside and outside corners, as well as for pipe collars. Use Schluter-KERDI-BAND, in widths of 5″ (12.5 cm), 7-1/4″ (18.5 cm), or 10″ (25 cm) to seal butt joints or corner joints. Schluter-KERDI-FLEX, in 5″ (12.5 cm) or 10″ (25 cm) widths, is used to seal expansion joints or flexible edge joints.

Schluter-DITRA provides reliable waterproofing in interior and exterior applications

Function

Ceramic and stone tiles are durable, easy to maintain, and hygienic, representing the ideal surface coverings. However, today’s lightweight construction methods can make the installation of hard surface coverings particularly challenging. In order to protect the integrity of the tile assembly, an underlayment that performs multiple functions is required.

Schluter-DITRA is a polyethylene membrane with a grid structure of square cavities, each cut back in a dovetail configuration, and an anchoring fleece laminated to its underside. Schluter-DITRA is bonded to the substrate using thin-set mortar. The anchoring fleece on the underside of Schluter-DITRA is fully engaged in the mortar to provide a mechanical bond to the substrate. Tile is installed over Schluter-DITRA using the thin-bed method in such a way that the mortar becomes mechanically anchored in the square, cutback cavities of the Schluter-DITRA matting.

Designed specifically for ceramic tile and dimension stone installations, Schluter-DITRA serves as an uncoupling layer, waterproofing membrane, and vapor management layer that accommodates moisture from beneath the tile covering. Further, DITRA performs all these functions while still providing adequate support/load distribution for the tile covering.

a) Uncoupling
Tile has been successfully installed for thousands of years by incorporating an uncoupling layer, or forgiving shear interface, within the tile assembly. Schluter-DITRA provides uncoupling through its open rib structure, which allows for in-plane movement that effectively neutralizes the differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, thus eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

Schluter-DITRA provides reliable waterproofing in interior and exterior applications. Its polyethylene composition protects the substrate from moisture penetration, which is particularly important in today’s building environment where most substrates are moisture sensitive.

c) Vapor management
The distinguishing feature of Schluter-DITRA is the existence of free space created by the configured channels on the underside of the matting. The free space provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate that could otherwise cause damage to the tile layer above. Thus, DITRA effectively manages moisture beneath the tile covering.

d) Support/load distribution
When placed on a solid foundation, columns or pillars can support tremendous loads. The same physical principle applies to Schluter-DITRA installations. Columnlike mortar structures are formed in the cutback cavities of the matting. Loads are transferred from the tile covering through these column-like mortar structures to the substrate. Since DITRA is virtually incompressible within the tile assembly, the advantages of uncoupling are achieved without sacrificing point load distribution capabilities. The ability of DITRA installations to support and distribute heavy loads while preserving the integrity of the tiled surface has been verified through extensive laboratory and field testing, including applications exposed to vehicular traffic.

An alkali-reactive waterproofing product based on alkali resistant synthetically modified
cement.The Davco K11 waterproofing concept is based on the crystallisation process. Davco K11
compounds combine with free water and other elements in the substrate to produce a
waterproof membrane. The unique and highly effective components of the Davco K11
systems chemically react within the pores and capillaries upon exposure to the moisture and
the elements. This chemical reaction initiates the formation of the crystalline structure within
the pores and capillaries, to become an integral part of the structure and block the passage of
water.Davco K11 is a brush or spray applied, Portland cement based system for
waterproofing concrete and masonry through the crystallisation process. Davco K11
waterproofs the positive side or the negative side of the substrate. Following proper
application, active water pressures force the crystal forming chemicals deeper into the subsurface
capillaries and pores to form a monolithic bond and become an integral part of
the structure.

Davco K11 is applied to interior or exterior below grade surfaces and between horizontal
structural slabs and toppings to protect against hydrostatic water pressure. These surfaces
include concrete, concrete block, brick and shotcrete.

Dampfast is a grey, flexible, 2-part waterproofing and sealing membrane that eliminates the need for a reinforcement layer and which is capable of curing in approximately 6 hours, therefore making it possible to tile on the same day.

Uses:

Ideal for waterproofing shower recesses, laundries, terraces, balconies, concrete roofs, water tanks, cement toppings, planter boxes, etc.

Features & Benefits:

· Dampfast is a flexible waterproofing membrane that eliminates the need for a reinforcement layer/matting, thus saving considerable application time and mess.
· Dampfast is capable of curing in approximately 6 hours at 20°C, therefore allowing for same day tiling.
· Dampfast once cured can be tiled over, using Davco`s cement based or two part adhesives.
· Dampfast is a flexible membrane enabling it to cater for limited floor movement while absorbing vibration.
· Being a waterproof membrane, Dampfast prevents surface water penetration, when applied correctly.
· Because Dampfast is an acrylic-cement based waterproofing membrane, it is non-hazardous and non-flammable.
· Dampfast has a creamy consistency, allowing it to be applied easily with a soft brush or roller.
· Dampfast can be used as a tanking membrane, where conventional one part acrylic membranes would fail. This makes Dampfast ideal for water tanks, fishponds and planter boxes.

Duraflex is a single pack, water based, high build membrane coating for the sealing and long-term protection of exterior surfaces.
The coating combines a high degree of flexibility with considerable cohesive strength and water resistance.  Duraflex has the ability to absorb considerable substrate movement and to bridge developing cracks.
A standard colour range of White, Grey, Pale Beige, and Mission Brown is available.
Uses
Duraflex can be applied to all common building materials such as concrete, render, aluminium, steel, cement sheet, masonry, brick, wood etc.

Davco K10 Plus is a flexible, single pack water based polyrethane waterproofing membrane, which is capable of drying in approximately 6-8 hours @ 20°C depending on the number of coats required. It is available in two colours – green and grey.

Uses:

• Waterproofing of internal and external wet areas, such as showers, bathrooms, terraces and balconies, which can be tiled over if required, using Davco cement based adhesives
• Ideal for roofs, including walkways and other exposed situations, as it is UV stable and foot trafficable
• Suitable for retaining walls and planter boxes provided that adequate drainage is in place
